Scary Saturday #1

Hello beautiful people!
First of all, we have to apologise for missing out on Fangtastic Friday yesterday, but we had a very good reason...

We were in the A+E because Sherry's sister got bitten very badly by their cat and had to go get checked out. Yeah, you read that right. A cat bite. You have permission to laugh, because she's fine now, and so is the cat. (We laughed afterward too.)

Anyway, that's our excuse for not doing Fangtastic Friday yesterday, so we hope to make it up to you all today by posting our first Scary Saturday post.

SCARY SATURDAY #1

Sherry's Review: Dream House.

*** 3.5 Screams ***

While flicking through the Sky movies horror section today Dream House was one of the few movies that actually caught my eye, mainly because I saw Daniel Craig’s name was in the description. The movies that are available on Sky are usually pretty rubbish but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I thought it was going to be the usual predictable boring story of a family that moves into a new house to find that they are being haunted by the spawn of the devil...then they move out within a month.
This film was nowhere close. Without giving too much away, I will say that there is a very big jaw-dropping twist that will change the entire feel of the movie. Favourite thing about this movie: Daniel Craig's performance, it was refreshing to see him playing someone other than James Bond. The character in this story is the polar opposite of the usual hard-ass 007 types he portrays. I don’t really have a bad word to say about this movie, it was very clever.
It is definitely worth a watch. I know I’ll be watching it again.

Wordy Wednesday #1

Wordy Wednesday is a weekly blog post we're going to start, where by we simply open a dictionary and pick a random word to post on the blog, along with it's definition. We feel that the English language is waaay underappreciated, and this is our way of trying to rectify that. (Also, Ember just really likes words.)

Today's Wordy Wednesday Word:

Vocabulary (noun)
1. all the words that a person knows in a particular language
2. all the words in a language
3. specialist terms used in a given subject
4. list of words in another language with their translation

Terrifying Tuesday #1

Muhahaha! It's Terrifying Tuesday here on the blog, and it's time for Ember and Sherry's reviews of the truly terrifying horror movie, Insidious 2.

Ember's Review: Insidious 2

*** 3.5/5 Screams ***

The first Insidious movie was a good movie, but not fantastic, so I wasn't sure what to expect of the second one. I was pleasantly surprised, however. Insidious 2 went deeper into the story, giving us a little more background on the main guy, Josh, and the uber-creepy ghost-demon thing that's attached itself to him. There were some very jumpy moments, and the amazing soundtrack created a decent sense of fear and intensity. The whole story was built up in a very clever way that I hadn't expected.
Overall, a very good movie, but definitely more jumpy than really scary. Better than the first by a long shot, though. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sherry's Review: Insidious 2

**** 4/5 Screams ****

When I heard the creators of Insidious were making a sequel I was ecstatic. I absolutely loved the first one...but I was kinda pissed about the ending. It left a lot of unanswered questions.
Ember, myself and my sister went to the cinema today to see it and I have to say I was not disappointed. It wasn't the most terrifying movie I have ever seen (That award goes to The Blair Witch project!! Panic attack galore) but it definitely had enough jump-worthy moments to be satisfying.
The story is an carry on from the first movie and unlike a lot of horror movie sequels it fits perfectly and is just as good as the first. All of the old characters return and you learn ore about the main villain from the first movie and there are lot of twists and turns to keep the entire movie interesting My favourite thing about the Insidious series is how good the music is; horror movies are not the same with a horrible backing track playing in the background so I have to give a huge high-five to the composer.
All in all I would give this movie a 4 Screams review, it's probably the best movie I have seen all year and I hope they make another movie; I can't stress how much I would love to see a new story in this world.

Yummy, right? Well, here's another tasty little snack for you - another of Ember's Quick Reviews!

Ember: Quick Review - Crave, by Laura J Burns

**** FOUR STARS ****

I've gone through almost all the popular young adult vampire books, so by the time I came across this one, I was desperate for something new. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting - it was a vamp story with a bit of a twist, which was a nice change, and I could really relate to Shay and found her a really likeable character. Gabriel is intriguing, and I enjoyed the flashes into his long past. Good vampire book, definitely worth a read.

Ember: Quick Review - The Beautiful and the Cursed

Right, because we don't always have a lot of time, and when we do, we tend to forget we started a blog at all, Sherry and I have decided to do the occasional Quick Review, which is just a short review of books we've read. It allows us to do more reviews, even on short notice.
So, here we go.
Ember's Quick Review: The Beautiful and the Cursed, by Page Morgan.

Synopsis:
After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.
In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.
And Grayson has gone missing.
No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.
Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.

***** FIVE STARS *****

Great book, amazing characters. I especially loved Quinn, but then, I always love it when there's a Scottish guy in a YA book. Luc sort of fascinated me, and I loved the complicated little bit of romance between him and Ingrid.
The story, overall, wasn't what I'd expected - it was better. It was like a combination of Cassandra Clare's Infernal Devices, and Amy Plum's Revenants series. I was hooked all the way through and read the whole book in one day. Can't wait for the sequel!

A Quick Hello!

So...
        We're pretty new to this.

As you can probably tell....

So let us start by introducing ourselves.

We're a couple of mentally unstable book fanatics located in a small corner of the world, where demons roam free, kinda...if you consider a couple of satanic tabbies to be demons.

As book addicts, we often live in fantasy worlds and find it difficult to separate imagination from reality. This leads to all sorts of problems, such as forgotten chores or homework, bumping into things while reading and walking at once, and occasionally having mental conversations with fictional characters in the middle of the street. (Note: Do not argue with fictional people in public spaces. You may receive strange looks from passersby, and risk the chances of ending up in a psych institution. Just warning you.)

Our particular brand of book addiction relates mostly to YA paranormal romance. Anything with vampires, werewolves, ghost, ghouls, demons, or any other monsters-under-the-bed that you can think of, you can be pretty sure we'll eat it up. And if it happens to include a hot and snarky guy character? Well. That's our favourite type. (For reference, see: Jace Wayland of The Mortal Instruments series. or Reid from the Unfortunate Blood series -  www.hglynch.weebly.com)

A little bit more personal?

Well, I'm Ember. Sherry and I have been best friends for fifteen years, ever since we met over the sandbox in nursery. Our shared love of books is just one of the many things that make us awesome friends. *Hi 5s Sherry*

Hey guys, I'm Sherry! Embers best friend, 15 years is a pretty long time, right?
We have both talked about starting this very blog for a pretty long time but we've never gotten around to it, until now.

Keep a look out for our first review coming your way quite soon!

Peace Out.
Sherz and Embz
